EATING ATTITUDES TESTS


An Eating Attitudes Test or commonly known as the EAT-26 is a standardized screening instrument widely used to measure the symptoms of eating disorders. Though it cannot accurately confirm whether a person is suffering from a disorder or not, it surely can measure the symptoms for the conclusion of a medical expert.

Eating Attitudes Test Benefits:

This test is by far the most accurate test when identifying the symptoms of eating disorders is concerned. There are levels of seriousness of the problem that can be conveniently tabulated by the instrument.

Who should take the test?

People with erratic eating habits, obese or anorexic people are advised to take the test at the earliest. However there is no hard and fast rule that only people with weight issues need to test themselves.

What does the test do?

The test is a two step process, where in people who score more than 20 in the diagnostic test are referred for a diagnostic interview. Based on the answers given in the test, the person is characterized to fall into one of the categories mentioned below.

  • Eating disorder
  • Partial Syndrome
  • Obsessive Dieters
  • Normal Dieters
  • Obese Individuals
  • Disturbed Individuals

If the condition is Normal Dieters, the candidates are at no risk. Any other condition is deemed abnormal and the candidate is advised to meet a medical expert for further confirmation on the seriousness of the case.
