Who should take the test?

Candidates applying for a graduate or a business degree need to appear for the test. In certain cases candidates who have finished their undergraduate degree, appear for a GRE test to apply for their Master’s in other countries, importantly the United States.

How to register for the test?

The test can be registered online by logging on to the GRE testing site. The test costs around 250 USD with options of reschedule and cancellations. What does the test do?

The test has four sections in it. The first section has a writing section and the other three are multiple choice questions. The entire test is computer adaptive i.e. online in nature. The following is the test format.

  • Issue analysis: 30 minutes
  • Argument analysis: 30 minutes
  • Verbal test: 30 minutes 30 questions
  • Quantitative test: 28 questions 45 minutes

The following areas are tested in verbal and quantitative sections:

  • Verbal: analogies, antonyms, sentence completions, reading comprehension passages.
  • Quantitative: Algebra, functions, statistics, probability, data analysis, number and operations, geometry

In the issue and argument sections, a topic is given for the candidate to write an essay on and an argument to contradict. This is evaluated on a scale of 1 to 6. The verbal and quantitative sections are scored on a scale of 0 to 60 with a total scoring range of 200 to 800.
