ICT is an acronym for Information and Communications Technology. An ICT Skills test is conducted for anyone who aspires to be a teacher to ensure that the necessary knowledge and exposure for becoming a teacher is present in the applying candidate.

An ICT Skills test is universally identified as a certification for acceptance of the candidate holding the certification as appropriate for teaching positions. These could involve positions like professional training, events in school, educational visits, organizations visiting schools, school productions, school publications, school clubs, links between schools.

People who want a career in teaching are required to take this test.

What does the test do?

The test has four real-life tasks around a few topics; these are further divided into sub tasks. The duration of the test is 35 minutes and the areas that will be covered are

  • Presentation
  • E-mail
  • Text editor
  • Spreadsheet
  • Browser

To carry out the tasks, the basic skills on the above areas are necessary. Examples include highlighting, navigating around the desktop, printing etc. one needs to pass the overall test and individual section cut offs do not exist. Each task carries around 5 to 7 marks and at the end of the test, the cumulative is generated as the total score.
